NORTH Perth couple Patrick Prendiville and Katalin Pataki will head to the Kimberley region in April to take part in RacingThePlanet to raise money for melanoma research.

They will be joined by Prendiville’s father Jamie, brother Christian, uncles Garry, John, Mark and Michael, and friend Bill Biffin in the seven-day, 250km endurance foot race.

The group will raise money for the Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre (SKMRC) based at the WA Institute for Medical Research.

Prendiville (27) said the team was already training for the challenge which similar to the Tour de France, except is is covered by foot and contestants are self-supporing.

“When the family began talking about taking part in the event, we jumped at the chance.

“Scott was a friend and patient of my dad’s who passed away from melanoma at just 27, so it’s a fantastic cause to raise funds for.”

The endurance races require competitors carry all their own equipment and food.

They are only provided with water and a place in a tent each day. There is medical support, however.
