THE WA squad for this year’s Lord’s Taverners indoor cricket shield in Queensland have high hopes for the competition later this month.
The annual event brings together teams of players with intellectual disabilities from around Australia.
Last year’s competition saw a vast improvement from the WA team, with two players selected in the Australian all-stars team.
One of the two, 15-year-old Boyd Duffield, was the youngest player ever selected in an all-stars team. He will again join the State side for the shield from June 27 to July 5.
The eight players from across the metro area were presented with their uniforms at a function at the WACA ground in East Perth last Saturday.
The Recreation and Sport Network, a Perth not-for-profit organisation that works to include people with disabilities into mainstream sports, works alongside Indoor Sports Australia to select and manage the team.
