Goal is a no-go zone

COULD ECU Joondalup women’s football team go through an entire season without conceding a goal?

So far, so good.

Seven rounds into the 18-game women’s division 1 season the girls have scored 32 times and conceded … well, they have not conceded any.

It is little surprise that goalkeeper Astrea Walker recently accepted a scholarship to play for a college in the US next year.

This is the same team that took all before it in the under-17 competition last year, scoring 140 times and letting in just 12 goals.

It forced Football West to shift the team to a higher league.

Coach Adrian Kenny said it was still a young team with all players aged between 14 and 18.

The second-placed Leeming Strikers were their latest victims.

A 5-0 win on Sunday has ECU Joondalup on top of the table by five points, with a game in hand on most other teams.
