BASKETBALL coaching is carried out all year at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex on Dixon Road, but it is during the school holidays that many young people are able to hone their basketball skills or learn new ones through the various coaching clinics
Former State Basketball League player Michelle Fletcher is just one of the clinic coaches and over the past couple of weeks has been teaching the finer points of the popular sport to seven to 12 year-olds as well as 13 to 18-year-olds in a separate clinic.
As well, a multi-sports camp was organised for five to 12 year-olds.
Michelle said such coaching clinics were held every school holiday and the centre had been able to snare former Wildcats coach Conner Henry along with Aaron Trahair from the National Basketball League, and Kae Tucker from the Perth Lynx team.
Michelle said the youngsters had a lot of fun at the clinics learning the fundamentals of the games and newcomers were able to pick up on the introduction to basketball sections of the clinics.
“There is a great deal of development going on all year and we are also focussing on pathways for the young people to feed them on into the State Basketball League,” she said.
