Tests find Champion Lakes a swim risk

Comments:

THE Armadale Redevelopment Authority (ARA) was forced to close Champion Lakes to swimming and drinking last week.

ARA executive director John Ellis said aquatic activities without direct water contact such as canoeing, rowing and dragon boating are unaffected by the temporary swimming ban. The ban followed test results that showed water contained excess coliforms and enterococci readings, which are indicative of human and animal faecal residue.

“This laboratory testing result reinforces the need for all users of Champion Lakes to ensure animals are kept on a lead and not allowed into the water,” Mr Ellis said.

More water test samples were being taken and when readings showed the water was safe, the beaches would re-opened.
