Lebensraum is based on the fanciful and explosive premise that a German Chancellor might, as an act of redemption, invite six million Jews to relocate to Germany with promises of citizenship and employment.

This dramatic but daringly dark comic piece of theatre takes you from Boston to Bremerhaven, from Israel to Australia to Berlin and explores the possibility of making restitution for the Holocaust.

Theatrical and inventive in its storytelling, with three actors playing over 40 penetrating characters, Lebensraum is a story of love, economics, revenge and forgiveness guaranteed to evoke emotion.

Written by one of America's most celebrated contemporary and produced playwrights, Israel Horovitz, Lebensraum is part of the 70/70 Horovitz Project – a world festival celebrating Horovitz's 70th birthday with 70 of his plays.

The Perth production has the honour of being the only venue in Australia participating and one of the few closing venues to commemorate the first anniversary of the project.

Lebensraum will be directed and designed by former In the Chair participant Lawrie Cullen-Tait (An Oak Tree) and Perth actors Vivienne Garrett, Brendan Hanson and Craig Williams.

Hanson, a WAAPA graduate from 1994, said while the play dealt with a very serious matter, the show would be presented in a positive manner.

“I am sure the play will bring the community together and we are looking forward to sharing the experience with them,” Mr Hanson said.
